MORLANG (2001)

I ended up trying on Morlang because tubi had it written up as a "horror"/thriller/drama, but still got hooked in what surprisingly to me ended up being a deeply twisted romance movie of a lofty expression. I actually watched this one a few weeks ago and had to stop with only a half hour left because it made me too gay and weepy, now in my post-viewing quicksearch i found little hard info and lots of headlines of dismal disappointment but hey thats why i see nothing but a trailer until post viewing
Morlang follows an artist from a pretty subjective pov who is successful in rotterdam but with some creative block and intermartial affairs this movie plot quickly thickens. Public's complaint but my compliment is how artfully this production weaves in and out of present and past tense, hardly ever confusing if anything it is done so with a lustrious mystrium and lends you to admire each situation id say from my own experience
The thriller aspect enters in the way the protagonist Morlang is haunted by his past wife through memory all experientially visual and auditory flashbacks

For hopeless romantics in the abstract expressionistic type only

Tubi's official synopsis: "eerie events occur after a successful artists discovers his wife is having an affair and exacts revenge."

SATAN'S STORYBOOK (1989)

Satan's Storybook is the video that actually inspired me most to start writing reviews for my friends for things they've totally gotta see. This movie adopts the now over-done "anthology"type horror concept, but this being only 2 parts, the first story a classic slasher.... a deranged devil following punker, gone on a killing spree only to in the end meets his maker...
And the second story surrounds a doleful drunker clown who has nothing other than his persona to cling to; that he has ruined, and he is on the brink of being fired from his pitiful career as an entertainer. In denial and disbelief, he meets his maker as well... a clown from the other side, who takes him through a judgement day-like scenerio, taunting him and resulting in a climatic unhappy ending....
The beginning/intermittent/end bits are comprised of their own small story interjection, surrounding Satan and his missing mistress who is off tossling with her "good" sister. The jester (my personal favorite character portrayal in the movie) is who takes Satan's mind off his own woes with these wretched stories that of course bring the devil joy in the midst of his own quarry, to hear of souls he has taken through their demise.

TW clowns

tubi's official synopsis: "a two-part horror anthology, the first part about a serial killer who is executed for his string of murders, the second about a despondent actor who hangs himself and meets a clown on 'the other side'."

WISH UPON A STAR (1996)

It's tough out there trying to search out disney movies they've got so much of a chokehold on the game, I tried on tubi and mid-word search I stumbled upon Wish Upon a Star, and recognizing Katherine Heigl I put it on.... best decision. Originally released in 96 as a disney channel movie, it was even re-aired in 2002 which crosses the threshold of prevalence for watchers with the 6 year difference between them
Holding the general/classic plot of... think freaky friday but between two teen sisters,  the older siss a Clueless's Cher-type,  younger siss science lab partner of a mid 90's grunge dream. All staple pop culture aspects seemed to be touched on and well captured, despite it being a tv movie Wish Upon a Star is a full hour and a half of impossible to ignore excellence.

For fans of millenium era disney channel movies, clueless, lindsay lohan's freaky friday, and bring it on

tubi's official synopsis: "a younger sister wishes to switch places with her popular older sister and the two bickering siblings awaken to find the wish has come true."

BUFFALO 66 (1998)

I found my way to watching buffalo 66 while looking for a couple movies to put into my back pocket for my weekend watching hours, picked something else then it resurfaced while perusing through mickey rourke's roster (since he plays a small role in this one)
Without any prior watching experience or opinion on Gallo, I went away with this movie enamored, yes the feeling of absolute self asborption is present even without prior research, but what stole me with this one is the reverse stock film contrast (making those couple indy art hausy tap dancing and sinatra singing scenes just alittle more pop) Appreciate the hometowney look in this movie, filmed in buffalo in the winter time which holds a special feel for me in my heart and it is obvious and comes through that clearly it does for Gallo himself
Sorry to read about Christiana Ricci's disappointments post-production but overall can never pass up a movie with her in the forefront, respect to her and glad she pulled through making this film what it was. To me a true (self indulgent)romance despite the odds of the two

Would recommend for the fellow ignorants as I waltzed in and out of this movie taken away by its football denim saturation and conflicted controlling maniacal love buzz...

Tubi's official synopsis: "billy brown just got out of jail. now he's going to serve some real time. he's going home."
